Subway
I am writing this on behalf of a friend, NYC and a conversation from the past week.
Don’t look at me twice.
On an average day in New York City you might pass 5,000 people.
When you look at other people what do you feel? Yes each person is different looks to energy to smell. Have you caught eyes yet? What races through your mind in that fleeting moment? A whole life?
What should you say if anything?
Sometimes the worse part is as the subway is pulling away and you know the moment is gone forever.
This is that post.
Seeing a stranger on the subway that you feel a connection to even though it’s all in your head. The notion that you are in New York City and the best thing is mind your business yet what if you did say hello?
Or ask where does the M train go? To start up the hopes of a conversation. Then how about the wide awake fantasy of what a simple hello could unlock for a lifetime. Even if it’s rejection, what if it’s not?
We still say nothing. If there was a time to say something on the subway the morning commute seems best? The evening train is more somber and the late night train has the distractions of a late night train.
I am surprised more random conversations do not happen on the subway. More looks are traded as phones in faces dominate the view. Humans distracted by their own glowing screen.
What would happen if that fleeing moment was realized?
